celebrating youth voice

Each May, our artists and staff pick the top three plays written by each school to participate in our annual Vermont Young Playwrights Festival. Here are photos and videos highlighting some of the awesome plays and workshops we do every year. Thanks to all of the wonderful students and their teachers for their creativity and hard work!

workshop Highlights

Highlights from our middle school stage combat workshop led by teaching artist Andy Butterfield.
"I would definitely encourage anyone to participate or fund this program.

The arts are extremely important & celebrating them in this way is magical.

Seeing the work of the other students was very enjoyable, not to mention quite impressive.

This program helps bring together students from various school to celebrate something they all love and I am so grateful to have had this opportunity."

Guest artists

Highlights from a Q&A with NYC theater practitioners Chris Giarmo and Jess Barbagallo discussing the ethos of making live performance, gender, and "living the dream."
"This entire experience has been eye opening and introduced me to a whole new world within theatre. I can't thank this whole program enough.

Working on this script has been an amazing experience and it was really cathartic for myself and many others who have helped me revise. Seeing the impact my script has made on a small scale has been amazing.

VYP has helped me expand my work in theatre - now I have a passion for writing shows as well as acting in them."
