YOUNG WRITERS PROJECT
Young Writers Project is a Vermont-based nonprofit that helps young people develop the confidence and communication skills needed to succeed and shape their world. It does so through in-person workshops, school residencies and performance events and through a teen writing community, youngwritersproject.org, a phenomenon of creativity, civility and respect. YWP staff, mentors and artists add to the peer-to-peer feedback with guidance on how youths can develop their ideas or improve their work. YWP also publishes youths’ best work in 20 newspapers, on radio and TV, on stage, on valued web sites and its own anthology and digital magazine, thevoice.youngwritersproject.org, a stunning example of young people’s writing, narration, songs, images and digital stories.
YWP recently opened youngwritersproject.org to youths from around the U.S. and world, and now has thousands of active users from as far away as Sri Lanka, Austria and South Africa, California, Utah and North Carolina. In September 2016, YWP will be launching on the site a new, formal Digital Learning Center with learning experiences in writing, performance writing and digital media taught by experts in Vermont and from across the nation. A modest fee can be easily waived; full scholarships will be available.
